Do you want to work in a Startup?

I have been working in a startup for two years now. And what I can tell you from experience is that to be successful, you need patience, a can-do attitude and openness to feedback.

Being in a startup is similar to being at a construction site. You can see there are some solid structures in place, and there are some niggles that are being worked on, but the biggest thing that you need to accept is that it’s a work in progress.

Youtube: I am the CEO of me!

So, here’s the one tip I would give you if you wanted to pursue a similar career path:

You are the CEO of your Job

In a startup, customer feedback about the product is essential and worked upon, and some teams are created. Still, processes are not necessarily in place, especially if you are in a startup that rose to the top quickly.
After working for a Fortune500 company and now a startup, I have realised complaining doesn’t work, but constructive feedback is appreciated and taken seriously. If you are the type who loves to complain and grumble but does not work towards a solution, then this is not for you.

To be successful at a startup, you have to be the CEO of your job. You cannot just always be complaining about how things are not working or how things need to be streamlined etc., you may have some great ideas, but that doesn’t solve the problems you are having right now.
Now flip your mindset, and ask yourself, if this was my company, would I sit around and let this deal slide because some team member is taking too late to reply or doesn’t know the process? No, you would get the job done because your company’s survival is at stake.

Follow this one rule, and you will enjoy work every day and the success that comes with it at a Startup.
