4 Things I have learnt on my way to becoming a writer on the internet

I have wanted to write for a long time, and after failing to be consistent, I signed up for the Ship30for30 cohort. Today is my 7th-day streak of writing; while on this journey, I have picked up a few interesting things which will make my writing journey less anxiety-ridden and more enjoyable.

This is my list of observations/learnings:

Learning#1: Everybody starts at Zero,

Everyone starts a Twitter account at zero, even if it’s only for a second. Even Barack Obama. Everybody has a journey, and you are on yours.

Learning #2: Quantity over Quality

In the past when I heard Quantity over Quality, it never made sense to me. For the initial momentum to build, your focus should be on quantity, not quality. Chasing perfectionism is the easiest way to break a writing habit. Quantity also helps you to zero in on what topics interest you and what your readers are interested in. You end up hating things you think you like to write about and vice versa.

Reason #3: Consistency is key

In our cohort, there is a famous saying, never miss two days in a row. Missing one day should never be a reason to miss the second day. Consistency is key, and I know it because I have consistently not created any content before this. Consistency is gold, you gather enough momentum to continue, and you will keep moving ahead.

Reason #4: Twitter Metrics

Twitter metrics should be looked at to help you with your writing, but never to get discouraged. Your job is to write what your readers enjoy, keep at it, and in time you will find success. Use metrics to tweak your approach, and never as a reason to stop.

You are not alone in this journey. I feel proud that I made it to 7 days, and I wanted to share what has helped me, hoping that it can help you too.
